Project Planning

Does your family have a vintage car parked in the barn that deserves a new life?  You want to restore it but you don't know where to start, which family members will be involved and where to source any of the parts.

Maybe you've just retired and you're ready to find and rebuild that first college car you wished you'd never sold, but you have to work in a fixed monthly budget.

Or perhaps you want to do some of the work yourself, but can't find a shop that will let you in the door.

Regardless of your situation, you probably want to know:

  • How much is it going to cost?
  • How long is it going to take?
  • What will it look, drive and sound like when it's done?

No matter what the situation, undertaking the restoration of a classic vehicle can be a daunting task.  It requires a great deal of automotive knowledge, an extensive network of specialty reproduction and general parts suppliers, access to the right tools, equipment, and craftspeople as well as adequate financial resources.  The best way to start is with a road map, a project plan that carefully identifies the ultimate goal, the scope of work, the required resources (people, vehicle system parts, and funding), the time line and important next steps.  Jonesy's team is available to lead you through this process.  The end result will be a written project plan which establishes time, cost and quality expectations.

In addition, you'll have a project process tailored specifically to your vehicle, a great list of resources available for your particular vehicle restoration project, and a critical "next steps" to do list.  The project planning process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month, depending on the scope of the project and the depth of research required.  It has been said that every hour spent planning a project can save three to five hours of rework when executing the project.  This is certainly true with automotive projects.  If you have dreamed of restoring your vehicle, but you aren't sure what that really means, please .  The more you know before you start, the more gratifying the process will be. Whether your project takes five months or five years, the goal of project planning is to outfit you with the information you need to be successful.

Owner-Assisted Restorations

At Jonesy's, we love to have our customers in the shop, working side by side with us.  All Owner-Assisted Restoration projects start with the development of a project plan (see more information above, under project planning).  One of the most important aspects of this project plan is the roles and responsibilities matrix.  We will identify which parts of the restoration process you may want to tackle yourself and which areas will be left to the experts.  Armed with a clear road map, we get to work restoring or customizing your vehicle, together.  If you are interested in learning about automotive restoration, and really participating in the work, Jonesy's may be the shop for you.  Our restoration specialists are trained to be excellent teachers.  You will also receive private account access through our website to view weekly progress updates with photos.  If you are interested in learning more about our Owner-Assisted Restoration Services, please .  Please also visit our Project Galleries section of the website to see samples of our work.

Turn-Key Restorations

Turn-key restoration projects also start with the development of a project plan (see the project planning section above). Once the project plan is approved by you, the Jonesy's crew gets to work, restoring or customizing your vehicle.  As a restoration customer, you will receive private account access through our website to view weekly progress updates with photos and detailed descriptions of work completed.  You can ask questions, and post comments to be reviewed and addressed by the Restoration Specialist assigned to your project.  If you are interested in learning more about our Turn-Key Restoration Services, please .  Please also visit our Project Galleries section of the website to see samples of our work.

Design/Engineering

Due to the nature of our work, there are many instances where it is impossible or cost prohibitive to find reproduction parts for our customer's vehicles.  Likewise, sometimes existing designs for parts or mechanisms just simply need improving.  At Jonesy's, we maintain design, machining and fabrication equipment to break new ground.  With three mechanical engineers on staff, we are truly able to think out of the box and create pioneering solutions to sometimes old problems. Some of our customers have utilized our skills to move beyond vehicle restoration. We've designed and built unique hardware for specialty applications.  Click here to see examples of our work.  Please if you would like more information about our Design, Engineering and Fabrication Services.
